Without fear of crossing borders qpiavis are maneuvering their way through contemplative Scandinavian atmosphere of piano trios like e.s.t., odd meter driven modern jazz and their love for sound oriented free improvised music.
Kim, Leon and Mikula met during their studies at the ArtEZ conservatory in Arnhem. Next to sharing the passion of bad Dutch/German wordplay they found out that making music together is a lot of fun too. In their music they offer a new twist to the classic piano trio sound with Kim´s cello playing switching quickly between a bass or melody function and everything in between. All three band members are contributing compositions and together with a strong interest in also playing free improvisations this naturally makes their repertoire diverse, but in general one might say that their music tends towards asking for a listener that comes close and takes time rather than shouting at the listener constantly. But also in this case – the exception proves the rule.
